In this episode, host Risa Morimoto explores both the attractions and challenges of retiring in Puerto Vallarta (PV), Mexico. Drawing from over ten years of visits, Risa explains why this vibrant city consistently ranks high for retirees.
Risa highlights PV’s stunning natural scenery, where the Sierra Madre Mountains meet the vast Banderas Bay, offering a unique blend of beach and mountains. The city's culinary diversity, with numerous restaurants serving global cuisines, is another major attraction. Puerto Vallarta’s colonial charm, rich wildlife, and ideal winter weather further boost its appeal.
The welcoming local community, both Mexican and expatriate, adds warmth to life in PV. The convenience of American stores, fresh and affordable produce, and high-speed internet also enhance living standards.
However, Risa also points out the downsides. The aggressive timeshare sellers at the airport, increasing traffic, "gringo pricing," and overwhelming crowds during high season can be off-putting. The intense summer heat and humidity are additional challenges.
Despite these drawbacks, Risa emphasizes that Puerto Vallarta offers a remarkable combination of natural beauty, cultural charm, and modern amenities that attract many retirees. She encourages listeners to visit during different seasons for a well-rounded experience and invites them to explore more resources via the Dream Retirement in Mexico platforms.
